Many of Madison County’s 2019-2020 sports teams hope to shine, including Cross Country. Last year, the girls traveled to state and expect to repeat their success again this year. The boys also hold themselves to a higher standard to win state this upcoming season. The team works hard everyday to make this hope a reality through building up endurance by running multiple miles at practice.
Head Coach, Joe Barnett guides the team to ensure that each athlete meets the standards expected of them. Coach Taylor and Coach Cutts also serve as key components in making sure the team strives for success. All team members work hard during the season to meet new goals, some of which include beating their personal record from last year.
Team members face many different challenges while running Cross Country, anything from learning how to pace themselves to practicing running up a steep hill. Although the team faces many challenges, they encourage one another through the harder runs which allows the team to give it 110% every single day.
The Running Raiders compete with each other at practice. After a long practice, Coach Barnett challenges his runners by saying, “If you bust your butt on this one, it will be your last one,” that hypes up the runners to push there abilities to the max.
So far, the 2019 season has proven fantastic due to the love and passion of the sport from all the athletes.
